Training Philosophy
At
Reliant our philosophy is pretty simple,
Train
Hard, Win Easy. It doesn’t
matter if “winning” for you is taking 1st
in your class at a local competition, serving a warrant as a SWAT
officer, or an overseas tour with the military.
Winning doesn’t happen by accident.
Winning is the result of preparation.
It’s not sexy
gear or tactics named after you that make you a good shooter.
Gear just makes up the tool box, and
tactics are how the techniques are applied.
The shooter's skill set is the bedrock everything else builds on, and nothing can replace
solid fundamentals you’ve polished to the point you execute them
flawlessly under pressure.
At Reliant our classes run
under the principle that there are no advanced techniques, only
advanced applications. In general, there are two basic types of
training, we call them “Grinding the stone” and “Polishing the
mirror”.

Both styles of classes focus on accuracy (how to
get it and practice it),
movement (how to do it correctly and practice it) and solid, modern,
efficient, safe techniques for draw and reload.
“Grinding the Stone”
is a core technique course. "This is the A-B-C's of D.V.C.".
These techniques are not specific to one
competition or style, and shooters from an LEO, Military or
concealed carry background will be well served with this type of class.
If you want a solid
base of precision fundamentals you can develop with, this is the
class for you. This is a detail
oriented class. The end goal being that students will understand
where they want to get with the technique on their draw, reload or
position entry, enough that they can teach themselves and
continue to improve after the class.
Most shooters don't know how or what to practice, this course shows
them.
There will be practice drills, and plenty of shooting but
it's less about immediate results through high volume hosing and
more about deeper understanding and solid, long term gains.
When you are ready to nail
down solid, efficient, modern fundamentals, and start to improve
your shooting “from square one” this is your course.

“Polishing the Mirror”
Once you have solid fundamentals down pat, you’ll want to polish
things up, especially as a big match, deployment or competition
approaches.
This course is less dissection of
technique, and more practice of applying that technique to the
utmost of each shooter’s ability.
While we will review and make subtle
corrections, this course is about getting ready to execute those
techniques in the near future.
You will leave a “Polish” course
shooting better than you ever have, ready to perform your best.
The techniques in both
classes are the same, and one should not be construed as basic or
advanced in comparison to the other. The difference is in the focus.
In “Grinding the Stone” we spend more
time building the core techniques, making sure you understand what
you’re doing so you can continue to teach yourself after the course.
There’s lots of dry fire, analysis and
explanation of why things are done a certain way.
In “Polishing the Mirror” you have a goal date
set, and this type of course is designed with an eye on immediate
results.
Our classes are open to all experienced enough to
run their guns safely.
Details like weapon type, duration and
focus areas are determined by each group to be trained.
